Smash Hit!
The first annual Capreol Youth Arts Festival was a fantastic success. On Saturday, August 4th a steady stream of viewers browsed through the gallery seeing an impressive amount of visual arts, accompanied by the soothing sounds of classical music by Bach and Handel. The art works included paintings, papier mache, woodworking, crocheting, photography, poetry, modeling plus a unique diorama. As people left the gallery they commented "awesome, impressive, excellent, surprising and remarkable"
The following day the performance artists took the stage. With the visual arts still in place it created a total arts ambience. A "full house" audience were treated to offerings of bands, classical violin, dancing and singing. The joint was rocking, as they say. Music covered various styles and composers from Ozbourne to Handel, from the Eagles to Disney. Throughout the performing arts presentations the overflow audience showed their appreciation with loud, enthusiastic applause and cheers.
When the Artsfest was first suggested we didn't know if any of the young, local artists wanted to show their work. The answer came back with a loud, resounding "YES!"
We salute these dedicated and talented people, all of whom are aged 18 and under.
Future plans for the Artsfest include a series of winter workshops, led by local artists. And of course, Artsfest '08. See you there!
